The fact that my pistol looks like Marv from Sin City is just a happy bonus.

October Ahoy! Part One

So, this went dark for a while again. Sorry.

I’ll spare you the whining, lets just say that life was being a cunt in its usual, unexceptional way, and it required a bit of attention for a while. Fortunately, we do have something to post up here now; more prop building. While this wasn’t meant to be a regular feature on the Mandatory Minimum Presence, it seems to have become one. A few irons are in the fire, and while no finished works are ready to show, we can at least post some progress.

An Update of Status

As has been announced on Yvonne’s Blog, her debut book Frohman’s War: Battle of Hearts is now live on Amazon for Kindle-compatible devices. If you aren’t keen on ponying up $2.99 on a blind sale, the first seven pages are live on the blog, free for your perusal and consideration. If you like them, please leave a comment, and if you do pick up the book, Yvonne would love a review. As she mentioned in a recent post, she has been really happy with the results so far, and quite literally jumped up and down when she saw she had her first review. As we have mentioned in the past, Yvonne and I are sharing a planet, but out output is pretty different. So, double warning. 1) If you read my book and go over to hers, there’s going to be a massive spike in the amount of explicit sex you are going to see. Straight sex, gay/lesbian sex, groups, implied, explicit, overt, covert, pretty much the whole spectrum. 2) My work is set in the future relative to hers (Frohman’s War being set in the mid-90’s and Shattered Continent in the mid to late 2010s), so Shattered Continent will contain spoilers for Frohman’s War, both in a general sense for the world and in a specific sense for the protagonist; in essence, the “Frohman” and the “War” of the title. So, ye be warned.

Arms and the Woman: Gearing Up for Frohman’s War

As mentioned in the last post, we’re getting ready for the photoshoot for the cover for Yvonne’s premier novel, Frohman’s War: Battle of Hearts. A model has been recruited to pose as the titular Frohman, and the costume itself is mostly together; Yvonne went to a Halloween party as Captain Frohman (c. 2018), and some minor adjustments will be needed for the model to portray Lieutenant Frohman (c. 1990). The focus of this post will be on two items, a sub-machine gun and a combat knife.

An Update of Status

We’ve been a bit quiet on the blog lately. After getting Caroline’s Awakening out the door, there seemed to be less “newsworthy” things going on around Schloss Krieg. November wound up being something of a dead month as well, with Yvonne taking a run at National Novel Writing Month (with victory achieved) and me on support detail as she has done for me the last few years. That being said, things are starting to ramp up here again, and a fresh deadline is approaching, only it isn’t mine this time.

Yvonne is in the final stages of preparing her first book for press, and it has finally received an official title. Frohman’s War: Battle of Hearts has a tentative publishing date of Late January 2015. A seven page preview is currently up on Yvonne’s site (Here). As I have mentioned before, we’re sharing a universe, but Frohman’s War is a very different animal from Shattered Continent. The preview cuts off before anything really explicit happens, but women are making out before the preview ends, so if that isn’t your cup of tea then maintain a safe distance. Yvonne’s mom didn’t. That led to an awkward conversation.

In related news, work on the cover is underway. Alicia is back, and we’re stepping up our game a bit. The cover for Caroline’s Awakening was made using a digitally altered photograph of items we had ready access to. Yes, we had ready access to an old map, a combat knife and a flashlight-equipped 1911. We’re that kind of household. This time around, we’ll be using a digitally altered photograph of things we don’t have ready access to, like a sub-machine gun and a model. Yvonne has acquired a model via social engineering and bribery (read: asking nicely and offering non-specific compensation), and I’m building a (fake) SMG for the shot. We should have something on that front posted about early to mid January.

Back on the subject of Shattered Continent, Book #2 is well underway. The current working title is Shattered Continent: Arms Race, which Yvonne thinks is a vast improvement over the original working title, Shattered Continent 2: Electric Boogaloo. Arms Race is going to be my chief focus for the foreseeable future, and as a side effect most of my posting on here is going to be for Yvonne’s work. She has suggested expanding in scope a bit (posting opinion pieces, creative process, worldbuilding, etc.), and I might follow up on that suggestion. More on that at it arrives.

The Shape of Things to Come

So, with book 1 out and in the wild, our attention turns to the future. Book 2 is already underway, though we’re still in the first draft. There was a brief period there where we were mucking about with more short story work, but at this point I fear it is becoming a distraction, so we’re going to lay it aside for now and focus on the book. The (working) title is Shattered Continent: Arms Race. Over in Yvonne’s sector of the internet, she’s finished with her rough draft of her 3-part fantasy series, and is bringing Part One into a public-ready state. Target for release is sometime in late January/early February, but we’ll be posting a more fine-tuned release date when things shape up a bit more. Alicia Johnson will be back as our cover artist, so be on the lookout for another art post sometime in the back half of December.

On a related note, I’ll be hitting the store tomorrow for supplies to build a fake sub-machine gun for use in said cover art. Presuming it comes out relatively well, we should have some photos of that to post up here as well. More information as it becomes available.

An Exchange of Text and Art

In the course of my continued flailing about on social media, I have managed to make a few contacts here and there. One of them, a cover artist/designer by the handle of WillowRaven (Blog Here, Twitter Here) has issued a writing prompt/challenge based on one of her uncommitted works, titled Return to Dune Towers. The pic is attached as the featured image for the post and the resulting text is below the bump. Right now it’s just a short piece, but might grow into something more later.
